THE REALITY OF THE HOUSING CRISIS

1.34 Million Households are stuck on social housing waiting lists across the UK. At current rates, it will take over 119 years to clear the backlog. While over 1,500 homelessness organizations do vital work, temporary fixes don’t solve a permanent housing shortage.

We aren’t sitting back waiting for someone else to fix it. UK Housing Club CIC is a member-powered initiative designed to take direct action: buying derelict buildings, restoring them into high-quality affordable homes, and protecting local land permanently through our legal Asset Lock.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

🏠 How does our housing model work?
We acquire properties (with a focus on restoring derelict buildings) and place them into community ownership. Once restored, the homes are managed directly through local authority housing registers to house families on the waiting list. The council manages the tenancies and handles the rent on our behalf, which provides the CIC with a steady, guaranteed income stream to fund our wider mission.

🔄 Where do the profits go?
Unlike traditional landlords or corporate developers, we have no private shareholders. Every penny of profit (“surplus”) generated from tenant rent is legally locked inside the CIC. This money is directly split between maintaining our existing homes, funding the acquisition of our next property, and purchasing community land.

🌾 How do the allotments and farming land fit into this?
Traditional developers buy land to build high-density housing for maximum profit. Once our rental income pipeline from our housing is stable, we use our surplus profits to buy vulnerable agricultural or green spaces. We then hand this land back to local communities for allotments, farming, or rewilding—permanently protecting it from corporate land grabs.

🛠️ Why focus on derelict buildings instead of building new ones?
Restoring derelict buildings allows us to move much faster, cost-effectively regenerate local eyesores, and bring existing community assets back to life without the heavy carbon footprint and massive delays of ground-up construction.
